PHOENIX – Exro Technologies, a clean technology company, will open its US headquarters in Mesa, officials said in a press release on Tuesday.

The 15,000-square-foot facility will serve as a multipurpose facility to expand research, development and testing to improve technology in various types of electric vehicles.

Exro plans to hire 50 people for the site over the next 18 months.

“The greater Phoenix area was a natural choice for our home in the US and we are excited to be part of the innovative business world,” said Sue Ozdemir, CEO of Exro Technologies, in the press release.

“The region is ripe for potential manufacturing partners and suppliers, and its competitive talent pipeline will support our continued growth.”

Exro plans to leverage Arizona’s electric vehicle and automotive resources to expand further, according to the press release.

The company’s announcement of its expansion into the United States came shortly after graduating from the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Exro was originally part of the Toronto Venture Exchange, which enables the public to invest in new and emerging businesses.

In addition to graduating from the TSX, Exro has developed a new class of power electronics for electric motors and batteries, which the company intends to further develop, according to the announcement in Mesa.

The company’s decision has been praised by officials from the City of Mesa and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council as the business is in line with their environmental goals.

Mesa aims to achieve CO2 neutrality by 2050.
