Ford Develops Predictive Night Lighting Technology

Driving on dark roads can be stressful, especially when you’re on unfamiliar, winding roads. Therefore, Ford is working on new technologies to improve driving comfort and safety at dusk and at night.

“The predictive lighting technology we’re now developing means that one day driving in the dark can be as easy as just following your headlights. This new map and location-based system is the next step on our way to make driving at night no more difficult or stressful than during the day, ”says Michael Kocherr, lighting research engineer at Ford of Europe.

If location data is not available while driving, the system uses camera and steering angle-based headlight rotation technology to illuminate the route in the best possible way until GPS position signals are received again.
