Gaston IT professional works to get kids into technology

Deb Alzner teaches "Coding with scratch" Thursday afternoon, September 30, 2021, at the main Gaston County Public Library.

Deb Alzner’s career in information technology has its roots in elementary school.

“When I was 8 years old, someone decided it would be worthwhile for my third grade to learn some basic technology to program the computers in our school’s science lab. I loved it, but computers weren’t back then very accessible. ” “, Said Alzner.

“Fast forward to my senior year of college when I was asked in an interview, ‘Do you think you would enjoy programming?’ Based on this experience, I answered ‘yes’ with absolute certainty. “

Last week Alzner spent a few hours as a technology teacher at Gaston County’s main library on Garrison Boulevard, teaching a handful of young students the basics of computer coding.
