PM Modi calls for constituting high-power police technology mission to adopt future technologies for grass root policing requirements | India News

LUCKY: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the constitution of one High Performance Police Technology Mission, under the leadership of the Union Interior Minister, to adopt future technologies for the needs of the basic police.
In his speech at the closing session of the 56th DGsP / IGsP conference in Lucknow, PM Modi called for an analysis of all police-related incidents and the development of case studies to turn them into an institutionalized learning mechanism, and also suggested the development of interoperable technologies that police forces could use would benefit across the country.
He also welcomed the hybrid format of the conference as it allowed information to flow freely between different ranks, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Prime Minister also proposed developing interoperable technology to aid police forces across the country.
Recalling the importance of technology in the life of the general public, the Prime Minister cited examples from CoWIN, GeM and UPI. He also recognized the positive change in police attitudes towards the public, especially after COVID, and suggested the positive use of drone technology for the benefit of the people.
PM Modi emphasized the review of the SMART policing concept introduced in 2014 and suggested the development of a roadmap for its continuous transformation and institutionalization in the police force.
To address some of the routine police challenges, he called for the involvement of highly skilled youth to seek technological solutions through hackathons.
In the run-up to the conference, various core groups of the DGsP were formed to deal with key aspects of national security such as prison reforms, terrorism, left-wing extremism, cybercrime, drug trafficking, foreign funding of NGOs, drone-related matters, development of border villages, etc.
The Prime Minister also awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service for IB staff.
According to a press release, IPS officials from various states had submitted articles on current security issues for the first time, following instructions from the Prime Minister.
The conference was opened on November 19, 2021 by Union Interior Minister Amit Shah, where he had awarded trophies to the three best police stations in the country.
Shah participated in all discussions and offered his valuable suggestions and guidance.
