Eight outstanding organizations and individuals received the 2020-21 South Coast Business & Technology Awards during a virtual ceremony on June 17th. The awards celebrate innovation, leadership and success in the region’s business and technology sectors, now in their 27th year.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Santa Barbara Scholarship Foundation.

“We were forced to cancel the 2020 ceremony, so we felt it was right to recognize these winners this year. As a direct result of sponsorship, we have awarded $ 325,000 in scholarships to students in the area this year and last, ”said Barbara Robertson, President / CEO of the Santa Barbara Scholarship Foundation.

“We are very grateful for this generous support from our local business and technology community,” she said.

To date, the event has raised nearly $ 2.5 million in scholarships for students across the country.

This year’s co-chairs of the event were Janet Garufis, Chairman / CEO of Montecito Bank & Trust, and Kirsten McLaughlin, Market Vice President at Cox Communications.

The 2020-21 winners were Direct Relief (Excellence in Service); James Rogers of Apeel Sciences (Entrepreneur of the Year); Patricia Bragg Holdings (Company of the Year); Sherry Villanueva of Acme Hospitality (General Manager of the Year); William Parrish of Seek Thermal (Pioneer Award); and Final Company, Nomad and Well Health (Rising Stars).

The Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara is the nation’s largest community-based college scholarship provider, and has cumulatively awarded over $ 135 million to more than 55,000 students in the county since its inception in 1962.
