Study: VR Helps Adult Performers Increase Revenue by Up to 30% and Creating More Intimate Experiences

Dreamcam surveyed 50+ adult performers who have recently made a switch to VR and found:

– 9 in 10 performers find the VR experience enjoyable

– Models report VR viewers to be not only more fun to perform for but also better tippers

Virtual reality is bringing performers and users closer together, while providing novel, more intimate experiences for all parties involved, the latest survey by adult VR entertainment pioneers Dreamcam shows.

A learning curve for livestream models

90% of surveyed models say that they find the VR LiveCam experience pleasant, and more than half have already attracted exclusive customers to their VR shows. Additional income coming in straight away was always among the primary positive outcomes listed by the respondents. The main drawbacks shared by a large part of the models surveyed were related to the different nature of VR performances, which takes time to get used to.

“VR is quite a different game, and it takes a bit of time to understand the best angles and movements properly. However, just twenty minutes into your first session, I started feeling more comfortable and confident,” comments one of the respondents.

The main difference between performing in 2D and VR is the fact that it is harder to imagine what the viewer is seeing. One of the tips Stan Gearson, VP at Dreamcam, offers to models is to watch their own broadcast in real time. This is easily set up in the studio or at home, as the majority of smart devices can serve as a viewing platform for LiveCam streams.

“What we heard from several respondents is the need for instructional videos that would flatten the learning curve. Responding to these requests, we have already produced a set of clips for models to learn how to have fun in VR,” Stan Gearson explains.

VR adult entertainment users: big on tipping, not so much on texting

The performers have also noticed several ways in which VR customers differ from the regular ones: the former not only view the shows for longer but are also more generous when it comes to tipping. A switch to VR has enlarged the respondents’ income by 10% to 30%, the exact increase depending on the amount of time the model spends in VR.

And while the models surveyed did find some of their VR clients less communicative, more people use voice chat instead of text. Respondents also note that VR attracts a younger and more progressive audience.

“I have seen many positive interactions and bonding moments between my viewers. This would rarely happen in traditional live streams. Here, I feel that for some people that come to see me, this is more of a social hangout than anything else,” a Dreamcam model comments.

Interestingly, VR seems to require more not only from the model, but also from the viewer. Some clients even noted that the VR experience seems “too real” at times and requires more commitment from the viewer than recorded experiences or traditional broadcasts.

“Coming back to 2D is similar to switching from watching a 4K movie to a grainy 480p video,” one of the clients told Dreamcam.
