Tampa Bay Buccaneers Present More Than $50,000 in New Technology to Young Middle Magnet School in East Tampa

Today the Tampa Bay Buccaneers donated more than $ 50,000 of new technology to teachers at Young Middle Magnet School in East Tampa. The donation included more than 100 new devices that will help teachers and students bridge the digital divide and enhance the student learning experience at Young, a Hillsborough County Title I school that focuses on hands-on learning as part of their STEM- Curriculum specializes in improving.

“Technology is more important than ever to improve communication and learning processes, and the most important place we want to bridge the digital divide is in our schools,” said Buccaneers co-owner Darcie Glazer Kassewitz. “These devices will have an immediate impact on Young Middle School, where we are proud to support the STEM curriculum through our Youth Leadership Program and enhanced technology, resources and mentoring that empower the student experience.”

Last fall, the team launched the Buccaneers Youth Leadership Program at Young Middle Magnet School, creating a unique commitment from Buccaneers players and staff to mentor 25 students. The program, which continues this year, was a focus of the team’s Social Justice Initiative, which supports players’s efforts throughout the year to promote social justice through targeted dialogue and impactful programs that create positive community change reach.

“The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are champions on the football field and champions for children throughout the Bay Area,” said Addison Davis, superintendent of Hillsborough County Public Schools. “This generous donation will have a positive educational and emotional impact on the students at Young Middle Magnet, where this organization has already made a profound impact through its incredible mentoring initiative. We really appreciate the Buccaneers for their commitment to making our schools better and our communities stronger. ”

Educators can use the new devices to access educational resources such as Verizon Innovative Learning HQ, a free educational portal that brings next-generation learning tools to all K-12 teachers across the country. Verizon Innovative Learning Headquarters addresses barriers to digital inclusion and is a key program of Citizen Verizon, the company’s responsible business plan for economic, environmental and social progress. Verizon Innovative Learning HQ is available for free to all K-12 teachers at Verizon.com/Learning.

The donation on Monday was made in conjunction with the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative, a league-wide commitment to bridge the digital divide and fund technology and support the online STEM curriculum for teens.
