USM and River Parishes Community College Sign Applied Technology Pathway Agreement

The University of Southern Mississippi and River Parishes Community College have entered into an agreement for a BAS applied technology degree. This agreement establishes a transferable path for RPCC students to be eligible for direct admission to USM. USM and RPCC officials attended the signing ceremony on April 26th on the RPCC’s Gonzales campus in Gonzales, Louisiana. This path provides students with a systematic overview of successfully completing a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in applied technology from USM and an associate degree and / or certificate of completion from RPCC. The institutions will work together to facilitate student access through a seamless mix of curricula.

This partnership is specifically designed to help technicians We are excited to deepen our relationship with River Parishes Community College. The support of students through this new Pathway Agreement will only strengthen our industrial market in our communities, “said USM Vice Provost for Gulf Park, Dr. Casey Malone Maugh Funderburk.

The director of the School for Interdisciplinary Studies and Professional Development at USM Gulf Park, Dr. Heather Annulis stated, “USM’s Bachelor of Applied Science program in applied technology builds on the technical and academic foundations of the RPCC students. APT BAS prepares students for the technical leadership skills required for the ever-changing, high-growth, high-demand workforce. This partnership with RPCC demonstrates our joint efforts to respond to the labor force and human capital development needed to provide competitive advantage for students and organizations alike. ”

The Pathway to Applied Technology Agreement between USM and RPCC helps both institutions proactively address the challenges of business and the resulting changes in the university landscape.

“River Parishes Community College is excited to enter into an agreement with the University of Southern Mississippi on the path of the BAS Applied Technology Degree. Providing flexible opportunities for RPCC graduates through promotion and promotion based on the bachelor’s degree is critical to their career advancement, “said Jim Carlson, RPCC Interim Chancellor. “This partnership opens the door to future educational and career growth that doesn’t exist right now.”

RPCC students who successfully transition to USM will earn a bachelor’s degree in Applied Technology after successfully completing the additional required courses at USM and completing all of the requirements for USM Applied Technology. Students can transfer up to 60 credit hours from RPCC to USM to apply to the 120 credit hours required to complete a bachelor’s degree in applied technology. To graduate from USM, students must meet all of the graduation requirements set out in the USM Undergraduate Bulletin at the time of their attendance.
